After a striking exterior and interior renovation to their new home, the owners engaged Christine Krause Design Studio to reimagine the outdoor spaces immediately around the house.

One of the client’s desires was to incorporate a functional, separate driveway area for parking and containing their two young dogs. The existing hillside adjacent to the house, created a limitation to the overall size of the potential space. Unique, angled planting beds were designed to maximize the new space. Three fastigiate Beech trees were planted to balance the horizontal lines of the newly laid reclaimed granite and bluestone. A dry laid field stone wall was constructed to define the space. The result is an inviting, new courtyard and gravel parking area that connects the front entrance, garage, and outer driveway and reflects the clean, sophisticated architecture of the home.

A second objective of the client’s was to create a larger outdoor terrace for family gatherings and create an indoor outdoor connection from the new sets of french doors . The existing bluestone terrace was in disrepair, but much of the stone was salvageable. The original footprint was expanded, existing stone walls repaired, and a fieldstone fireplace with storage for wood was added. The resulting enlarged stone terrace, seat walls, and fieldstone fireplace now allow for a comfortable, relaxing area to enjoy with family and friends.
