The owners of this wonderful rambling, stylish farmhouse contacted Christine Krause Design Studio to create a more appealing entrance to the house as well as a new, relaxed outdoor living space for their young family, friends, and frequent guests. The clients desired a convenient outdoor space they could enjoy the distant views and entertain family and friends, but without a high level of maintenance.

The key to crafting their vision was to create a harmonious flow between the home, the gardens, and the countryside landscape. Opening up the front of the house produced a more graceful, open entrance leading out to an outdoor space that felt like an effortless extension of the home.

The space was enhanced with the planting of single stem birch trees, underplanted with feathery Pennisetum (fountaingrasses), purple flowering Perovskia atriplicifolia (Russian sage), colorful Allium bulbs, and sedum (stonecrop). The botanical color scheme continues with two additional gardens with of purple flowering Baptisia australis, deep pink Geranium macrorrhizum and Stachys pants, along with salvia, sedum, and lush green Alchemilla bordering a raised bed of lavender.
