After completing an interior renovation, the clients engaged Christine Krause Design Studio to re-imagine the outdoor space of their country property into the perfect retreat for the owners, their children and guests,
Wonderful opportunities existed on the property to create a new spaces for this active young family. The design plan focused on renovations that created an appealing atmosphere for the adults, while also generating a safer environment for the children to explore and play.
Awkward circulation of the driveway and front entrance were redesigned to provide a more safe, functional, inviting entrance to the property. A prominent new front door entrance space and walkway was created to welcome guests. The parking area was relocated a safe distance from the children’s play areas and also allowed for the vehicles to be less visible from the outdoor living spaces. Extensive grading was completed to solve drainage issues and create a softened hillside garden and seating area with new plantings of low growing Hydrangea, juniper, sedums, and geranium. The existing deck was updated with horizontal trellising and new storage for firewood and play equipment. Reclaimed granite steps set into the grade lead to a fieldstone fire-pit and circular gravel seating area with a view of the property’s pond for evening entertaining and roasting marshmallows.
Keeping in mind the family’s weekend schedule, planting was designed for low maintenance, while still providing beautiful cut flowers for the home. This update farm-style home is now an ideal weekend getaway for the family and their guests.
